4OTC Podcast - Episode 8

Lauren | 8:41 pm | January 21, 2008 | Podcast

Bear with us this week as we are testing some new technology. Good news for Ian (he’s getting married) means bad news for us (he’s moving away) so we are working with Skype to record the podcast from different locations.  Our recorder choked on the whole thing so the synchronization between each of us gets way off track at times.  Even moreso than what you’ve usually come to expect from us.

In this week’s podcast, we talk about how early is too early to get our act together when planning activities, and how it can be difficult to even get leaders together to plan due to conflicting schedules. We also run through our opinions on how to influence our students’ decisions without alienating them.

The EGADIdeas Game o’ the Week is Musical Connect Four, a fun twist on a classic board game.

We have a small youth group and a mix of churched and unchurched youth in the group. We do struggle with finding the right mix between bible study / teaching and fun activities. Your podcast (which is great by the way!) leads me to believe most of your youth are “churched” and come from your congregations. Could you provide any suggestions / guidelines for dealing with a mixed group such as ours? Thanks.

PS - Congratulations Ian!

Blessings,
Bill Morgan

Hey Bill… right now Lauren and I are building up a youth group from a small collection of church-going students. We have a couple of unchurched teens that come out to the occasional event, but that’s an area that we’re trying to grow.
We have, however, come from a group that had a large amount of unchurched and other-churched students and think it’s a great idea to address some of the issues that come up with combining students from both backgrounds. Thanks!

Hi Bill - I think that is a great topic to address! I didn’t grow up as a churched kid and my first exposure to youth many years ago was as an unchurched youth and there are very different challenges in that area, both as a youth and as a leader.

Hi Ken! Chris is working on editing the audio file for #9 and it should be out shortly. He’s had a very busy couple of weeks with work & youth & other projects - darn life getting in the way! :)

Glad to hear we have a listener that speaks Canadian!
